Moses Tanui is one of the most popular and richest Marathon Runner who was born on August 20, 1965 in Nandi District, Kenya. Moses Tanui, a Kenyan long-distance runner, was born 20 August 1965 in Marakwet District. He won the gold medal for over 10,000 meters at the 1991 World Championships of Athletics in Tokyo.
In 2004, he was still active when he participated in the Seoul International Marathon. A knee injury later forced him to retire. He still runs a Kaptagat training camp [1].
Tanui was instrumental in helping Khalid Khannouchi set a new world record at the Chicago Marathon 1999. He eventually finished 2nd in 2:06,16. This was a Kenyan record and was the third-fastest marathon in history.

In Milan, he ran 59:47 on 3 April 1993. He was the first to complete a half-marathon in under an hour. Paul Tergat, a fellow Kenyan, broke his record five years later.
After a controversial incident during the final lap, in which he lost his shoe after making contact to Haile Gebrselassie, he came in second at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics in Stuttgart. He won both the 100th Boston Marathon and the 102nd Boston Marathon. Tanui was awarded the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships 1995 and silver in 1997.
He was involved in a serious car accident near Nakuru in February 2010 suffering major injuries to his leg and chest. David Lelei, another former runner, was driving Tanui’s car and died in the accident.
